TV Show

The game played in the UK has 22 contestants standing behind red boxes. At the beginning of the show a player is selected at random to play deal or no deal.

On average you have to be on 15 to 25 shows before being selected to play deal or no deal. The selected contestant takes there red box with them and takes their place at the "pound table" which the host Noel Edmonds refers to as the "crazy chair".

The player chooses one of the 21 remaining red boxes. This removes the value in that box from their potential prize money. Obviously the contestant that is playing wants to eliminate the smaller values of money and leave the higher values to the end for their possible winnings. The red boxes that the player chooses are opened by the other contestants who will play in future episodes. Every episode there is a new contestant to replace the previous one that could have gone home with between £0.01-£250,000.

There are 6 rounds, in the first round the player opens 5 boxes and in the following 5 rounds he or she will open 3. At the end of each round Noel gets a call from the banker (the banker is an unknown figure in the game who"s money is at stake). The banker makes an offer to the player to purchase that players box for a sum of money. The player can accept or decline the bankers offer.

The bankers offer is dependant on how the game is progressing. E.g. if there are several high values left for the player to win and a couple of low ones, the banker will offer the player a higher amount, however if there is only one high value left and many low values, the banker won"t offer a very good price.

Decision Time

The player responds with "Deal" or "No Deal". If the player responds with deal, they accept the amount the banker offered and take that sum of money home but the game continues to see what would have happened if the player hadn"t said "Deal".

If the player responds with "No Deal" they carry on with the deal or no deal game. The player is also asked if they want to swap their box usually. The player is always offered if the 1p or the £250,000 box is still in play.

After all 6 rounds, only two boxes are left including the contestant"s box. Then the contestant is offered to swap their box with the other box that is still in play. Whichever amount the player is left with is the cash prize that they win.

Occasionally, if the player has said "Deal" earlier in the game, after all 6 rounds, the player is then offered the "Bankers Gamble" in which case if the player says "Deal" they give back the amount they dealt at and then open their box and take home what amount is left in their box at the end. The second jackpot winner Alice Mundy who had dealt two rounds earlier at £17,500 was offered the "Bankers Gamble". She was left with the 1p and the £250,000 box and accepted the "Bankers Gamble". The gamble paid off and she won the £250,000 jackpot!

Recently the banker has been throwing in "twists" where he may make an offer during a round.
